In traditional log cabin blocks the center block is red, as a representation of the hearth fire. With the dark and light blocks meant to represent the shadows and light brought on by said fire. But I was listening to Laura Ingalls Wilder's children's classic "Little House in the Big Woods" while I was designing and piecing this quilt and that inspired my take on the log cabin block. So ta da! I fussy cut log cabins to be the center of the four blocks, surrounded by fussy cut trees to circle the log cabin, just like in the book!
